Could there be life on Mars? Well that’s what Nasa could be announcing in about an hours time (1900GMT) but am I the only one who saw the front page of the paper this morning at work and said to themselves “meh”

I only feel this way because we have been here before. In 1996, they said they had discovered fossilised organisms in a meteorite from the planet but other scientists were sceptical and it has never really been proved or disproved.

The reason there may be life on the red planet? Nasa scientists believe ALIEN microbes living just below the Martian soil are responsible for a haze of methane around the Red Planet. Nasa’s findings confirm studies by Europe’s Mars Express probe, which has been orbiting the planet for five years and also reported signs of methane in 2004.

Now at this point I could comment on where the methane came from, maybe….. Uranus, but that’s just too easy so I won’t. Untill Nasa or whoever have hard proof I'm afraid I have to say "meh".

Britons are panic buying the last remaining stocks of traditional light bulbs after the Government agreed to plans to phase them out completely

Supermarkets and DIY stores are running low on 100W due to the conventional bulb being removed from sale at the end of this year and replaced with supposedly greener, low-energy fluorescent counterparts.

Shoppers have resorted to stockpiling supplies of traditional bulbs over worries about the quality of low energy alternatives and the fact that most of them do not work with dimmer switches.

On the brightside, I'm sure the newer ones will be easier to insert into the body.

Fernando Alonso had been reported to be involved in a light aircraft but there are two different stories.

Itv-f1.com have said that Alonso and his wife, along with other passengers were unharmed in the incident but The Press Association have reported that he wasn’t even on the plane!?!

So what’s the real story?

The lightsaber used by Luke Skywalker in the first ever Star Wars film has sold at an auction for $200,000 (£113,000).

The original prop was among lots of Star Wars memorabilia put up for sale by the film's producer Gary Kurtz. It was bought for twice its estimated value. Another lightsaber, used by Darth Vader, was snapped up for $118,000 (£67,000), at the Hollywood film sale.

Other top props which went under the hammer include a Chewbacca face mask, which sold for $50,000 (£28,000) and Luke Skywalker's X-Wing flight suit went for $70,000 (£40,000).

Yoda's walking cane also sold for $50,000 and a Snowspeeder model from The Empire Strikes Back went for $35,400 (£20,000).

The original lightsaber were made from the handles of flash guns from old 1930s cameras, and had black grips added to them so they could be held easily.

The huge sale also included non-Star Wars props including Indiana Jones' leather jacket bought for $94,400 (£53,700), and the jacket Arnold Schwarzenegger's wore in The Terminator, which went for $41,300 (£23,500).
